Last time we began highlighting the extreme nature of leftists’ (and Democrats’) position on abortion. We noted the “pro-choice” crowd not only promotes abortion, but does so in the name of “women’s rights,” “reproductive freedom,” and “health care.” Regarding health care, one doctor has used her influence and platform (a platform that has included testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee) to ask abortion defenders this question: “If abortion is healthcare, my question is: what disease are you treating?”

What limits do abortion advocates want to place on abortion? None. In fact, as we soon will see, they increasingly are advocating legal infanticide. Moreover, they consistently maneuver to make abortion available to anyone who wants it at taxpayer expense (also go here). And here’s more. Democrats and leftists are trying to force those who oppose abortion to support it in their business policies. They are taking legislation that was crafted to meet the needs of mothers having babies and misusing it to insist employers meet the demands of their female employees who want abortions. Real choice among those who claim to be pro-choice is almost nowhere to be found.
What About the Public?
Does the public at large understand the radical nature of what pro-abortion advocates want? Unfortunately, members of the public appear to be torn. We discussed five reasons for this last time. The first four pull people in the direction of supporting abortion, but the fifth one compels them to express reservations about the practice. In society we see

- a widespread rejection of absolute truth,
- a lack of understanding of the true nature of rights,
- an emphasis on sex for pleasure to the neglect of a recognition of the importance of children and being responsible to bring them up, and
- an increasing acceptance of same-sex marriage, which obliterates in people’s minds the importance of the reproductive capabilities of opposite-sex couples. See myth #6 in this article.
At the same time, people have an innate understanding that abortion is the taking of an innocent life and is therefore wrong, despite their claim that truth is relative and that right and wrong are up to each individual. This fifth factor works to counter-balance the above influences. God made people in His image. “The requirements of the law [of God] are written on their [people’s] hearts, their consciences also bearing witness,” Paul wrote of the Gentiles in Romans 2:14-15.
Unfortunately, against the backdrop of the first four factors we’ve cited above, the emotional and manipulative rhetoric of abortion advocates has successfully advanced the pro-abortion cause in America. We need not look far for evidence that this is true. In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, “the pro-choice position has won in every state where abortion-related referendums have been held.” The states involved include California, Michigan, Vermont, Kansas, Kentucky, and Ohio.
Mark it down. Abortion on demand for any reason or no reason actually equals abortion as birth control. This reality relates directly to items 3 and 4 above; even so, they’re not totally unrelated to the first two items. These and similar factors are taking our country to a perilous place. Ponder these questions: Are attitudes like the one showcased in the following video attitudes that a society should promote — or condemn? What are the long-term consequences of policies that foster such attitudes?

Can people really be OK with this? Yet this is the posture toward innocent life, and one’s own responsibility to protect it, that abortion-on-demand breeds.
The fifth factor, as we indicated, pulls the public in the direction of supporting the right to life for the pre-born. People don’t like abortion because they know inherently that it is the taking of an innocent life. At the very least, most are uneasy with it. This awareness (even if it is an unconscious awareness) compels a great many individuals to be willing to place at least some restrictions on abortion. This article cites two polls that have picked up on this, even in the aftermath of Dobbs. One of the polls found that only 28% believe abortions should be available without any restrictions at all. The finding is noted at the bottom of this page. Part 1 offers a brief discussion of the significance of these surveys.
The Challenge Before Us
Ballot initiatives relating to abortion will be considered in 2024 in many states, perhaps more than a dozen, including Florida, Maryland, New York, Nebraska, Montana, Arkansas, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Missouri, South Dakota, Maine, and Pennsylvania. [UPDATE: Ballot initiates on abortion will appear on ballots in ten states this November.] Beware! Pro-abortion forces aren’t interested in a rational, reasonable debate. They will try to use Dobbs as an opportunity to promote their pro-death policies. Be assured that “pro-death” is an appropriate description of all they’re advocating.
We who are concerned for the lives of the pre-born as well as for the moral character of the country have our work cut out for us; but we have the truth on our side. Moreover, recognizing that the public does indeed have an innate awareness (however unconscious it might be) that abortion is wrong, we can — indeed we must — effectively point out the rabid extremism of abortion advocates.

Often those who have been advocates for the pre-born have been called pro-life. We repeat: the truth is that the other side isn’t really “pro-choice,” even though that’s what its adherents typically have been called. In truth, it is pro-death. We must point this out so people will understand. In part 3, using a series of videos, that’s exactly what I will attempt to do.
