The Only Way a Nation Can Acquire and Maintain Freedom from Want

The Norman Rockwell painting displayed above frequently is called Thanksgiving, The Thanksgiving Picture, or I’ll be Home for Christmas. Its actual title, however, is Freedom from Want.

When we have an accurate understanding of the Pilgrims’ first two years at Plymouth, this heartwarming Norman Rockwell painting reminds us that only way a people can secure and maintain FREEDOM FROM WANT is to reject socialism and to take advantage of all the opportunities the free market economic system affords.

Poverty will never be completely erased. Jesus said, “[T]he poor you have with you always.…” Charity is necessary to help meet the needs of those truly unable to help themselves. Still, despite the unpopularity of this message today, the truth is this: Scripture and history teach that in a society that honors free-market principles, poverty decreases (also go here).

The Pilgrims learned the hard way, but their experience can help us avoid the unnecessary problems they faced.
